We are a makerspace, hackerspace, meeting place, and collaborative workshop. A diverse mix of creative tinkerers, artists, and geeks from Basel and the surrounding area gather here. Our members and guests work on individual and collaborative projects, learning, teaching, and inspiring one another.
Our core principles are transparency and democracy. We want to clearly disclose all processes that take place at Starship Factory and document and explain our work so that others have the opportunity to learn from our experiences and mistakes, and to join us and support us with their knowledge if needed. Nothing should happen in secrecy; it is important that everyone who wants to know more can access information, contribute, and participate in decision-making through grassroots democracy.
Primarily, however, we are a group of people who enjoy tinkering. The organizational structure is simply meant to provide us with a long-term framework so that we can pursue our urge to create new things.
